Twitter accounts associated with the Pakistani embassies in the UN, Iran, Egypt, and Turkey are blocked in India

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, India has blocked the official Twitter accounts of many Pakistani diplomatic missions, media, and some well-known individuals in accordance with the Information Technology Act of 2000.

The Ministry was quoted by Geo News as stating in a tweet on Monday night that it was “Deeply concerning that #India has blocked the flow of information to Indian Twitter by withholding access to the following official accounts.” The tweet also listed the restricted accounts.

“Diminishing space for plurality of voices & access to info in India is extremely alarming,” the tweet added.

Turkish, Iranian, Egyptian, and Pakistani embassy accounts in the UN are among the accounts that have been blocked.

Twitter was specifically marked by the Ministry as failing to adhere to the relevant international standards.

Twitter is being prompted by the Pakistani government to immediately grant access to the accounts that have been limited and to support the rights of people to free speech and expression.

According to reports, the company has also withheld the Twitter usernames of journalists, including Murtaza Ali Shah and CJ Werleman, along with various reporters for The News and Geo News in London, in accordance with the Indian Information Technology Act, 2000.

For more than 17 years, Murtaza Ali Shah has been connected to The News and Geo.
Shah acknowledged receiving an email from Twitter informing him that India was taking legal action against his account.
