Beware of the “Dance of the Hillary ” video & “tasksche.exe ” file circulating online; Pakistan’s alleged cyber attack virus targets Indian users

We are all aware of the growing tension between India and Pakistan. This all started due to the Pahalgam attack in Kashmir by terrorists, where 26 Indian civilians were killed. As per the Indian government, the terrorist attack was backed by Pakistan, and as a response to the Pahalgam attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on 7th May, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir, from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.

Pakistan did not take the attacks lightly and started launching missiles and drones at India’s border, though they faced setbacks due to the incredible Indian Air Defence System. Facing defeat on the battlefield, Pakistan is now reported to have initiated cyber attacks in India.

Pakistan has reportedly started a cyber war targeting ordinary Indian citizens through social media and messaging apps. According to intelligence sources, Pakistan is trying to spread a dangerous virus called “Dance of the Hillary.” This malware is being sent through platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, and email. This malware is spread disguised as a video or document with the “Dance of the Hillary” name or with .exe extensions (like “tasksche.exe”), which appear harmless initially but once clicked, may install malicious code on the device, allowing remote access and data theft.

This virus is capable of

  • Extracting sensitive personal data, including banking credentials and passwords
  • Gaining unauthorized access to system files
  • Enabling remote control of infected devices

The Indian cybersecurity officials have not attributed the origin of the malware campaign formally, but maintain that its distribution aligns with known patterns from state-sponsored cyber groups. The timing of this digital offensive also coincides with increased military activity in the region, prompting further scrutiny. This alleged cyber attack seems like a desperate move by Pakistan.

Authorities are urging users to:

  • Avoid opening unknown attachments or clicking on suspicious links
  • Regularly update antivirus software and operating systems
  • Report any unusual device activity to the cybersecurity helplines to CERT-In
