Facebook announced on Wednesday that Workplace, its work-focused version of the social network, will be integrated with Microsoft’s collaboration programme Teams, allowing users to share information more easily across the two platforms.

Users will be able to share material from Workplace’s newsfeed and groups into Microsoft’s Teams platform as a result of the improvements. Users will soon be able to livestream video from Teams into Workplace groups, according to the company.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, remote-working tools have become indispensable to businesses. In an interview, Ujjwal Singh, the CEO of Workplace, said, “You have to meet them where they’re immediately, wherever they’re doing their work, whatever platforms they’re most using.”

According to him, the integration was primarily designed for customers of both products.

Workplace, the Silicon Valley corporation’s internal messaging board, was started five years ago outside of the company. Frances Haugen, a former Facebook employee and whistleblower, recently released confidential presentations and discussions that were posted on the platform.

Walmart and Deliveroo are among the companies that use the programme. Workplace has 7 million paid customers, according to Facebook.

Microsoft and Facebook are both developing virtual reality solutions for remote working. Facebook recently changed its name to Meta to signify its concentrate on the metaverse.

Microsoft revealed this week that its virtual platform Mesh will be integrated into Microsoft Teams next year. Horizon Workrooms, a remote work app for users of Facebook’s VR headsets, was recently released as a beta test.
