WhatsApp Channels Feature Now Made Available in More Countries

WhatsApp introduced its Channels feature early last month and at the beginning was only available in two countries, Columbia and Singapore. Now this feature has been made available to more countries and users can update and find the feature on their respective WhatsApp accounts.

Here’s more about it.

WhatsApp Channels Now Available in More Countries

Starting from the 24th of July 2023, WhatsApp Channels will be available in the countries of Egypt, Chile, Malaysia, Morocco, Ukraine, Kenya, and Peru. The update has been officially announced by WhatsApp via its official Twitter handle.

As mentioned, WhatsApp Channels when it was introduced was only available in two countries and it is after more than a month, WhatsApp has made the feature available to more countries. If this is the pattern WhatsApp is planning to follow, it might take a few months for the feature to reach everyone.

Channels Feature

The Channels feature that has been introduced is a one-way broadcast tool that will enable individual users or organizations to send text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls to the members following their channel. Users will be able to access their subscribed channels on the “Updates” tab at the bottom right corner of the screen.

WhatsApp is addressed as a private messaging application and even with the Channels feature, this will remain the same. WhatsApp still ensures privacy on the platform by not sharing the personal numbers of both the followers and admin of a channel with others. Admins can also decide who should follow the channel and taking screenshots or forwarding messages can be restricted as well if needed. One more thing to be noted is that, unlike private chats, the messages on channels will only be stored on WhatsApp’s servers for upto 30 days, and on the follower’s devices, WhatsApp will be bringing more updates to make it disappear much faster.

If you reside in one of the above-mentioned countries, all you’ll have to do is to update WhatsApp to the latest version and the feature can then be accessed on the “Updates” tab. For others, we’ll probably have to wait a few more months until the feature is rolled out in their region.
