Via Email; Slack requests Android users to reset password

It’s not a scam, it’s legit!

If you’ve also received an Email from Slack asking you to reset your password along with a  link. However, not every Slack users are receiving this email. The company’s Android app was accidentally logging credentials in plain text, and affected customers are being notified via email to reset their passwords.

Affected customers are also asked to delete their Android app’s data to get rid of those logs, which are still hanging around your phone’s storage, storing your login credentials in plain text.

Slack in this mail wrote, “We are taking this step as a precaution due to an error that we discovered and there is no evidence of any unauthorized or third-party access to this account…On December 20th, 2020, Slack introduced a bug that caused some versions of our Android app to log clear text user credentials to their device,”

How to Erase Data:

Settings > Apps > Slack > Storage > Clear Data or Storage.

An Alternate way:

Select the Slack app’s icon in the menu and tap App Info > Storage > Clear Data or Storage.

The user will have to sign-in after erasing the data as the user will be logged out automatically once the App’s data is erased.

The version of the Android app responsible for this issue has been blocked from use.
