Truecaller Reintroduces the Call Recording Feature

The call recording feature in Truecaller was first introduced in 2018 to its premium customers and in 2021, the feature was expanded to all the other users as well. But after the Android and iOS operating systems prevented applications from recording calls, amongst many other applications, Truecaller too had to take away its call recording feature.

Now the company has re-introduced the feature back on Truecaller by relying on a dedicated recording line, enabling Truecaller users to again have the option to record their calls. Along with the call-recording feature, the company has also introduced a transcribing feature with the help of its AI integration, which will transcribe all the recorded calls from audio format to text. Users will be able to read the transcribed audio, rename them and even share it if necessary.

Truecaller with the help of the dedicated recording line, records the call in the cloud and once the call ends, the recorded audio is sent to the user’s device. No audio will be stored in the cloud and will only be available on the users’ respective devices, making sure that its users are given the proper privacy required.

In Android devices, users if they have Truecaller set as the default dialer, can simply record the calls by clicking on the record icon or by pressing on the floating record button if a different dialer is being used. However, for iOS users it would be a little complicated as they would have to call the record line while being on the call via the Truecaller application and then merge the calls together in order to record them. The other person will also be hearing a beep sound to indicate that the call is being recorded.

The newly introduced AI-powered call recording feature is only available for premium Truecaller users and is currently only rolled out in the United States. The company has also promised that the feature will be expanded to other countries as well, including India.
