RCS conversations in Google Messages are now end-to-end encrypted

RCS conversations in Messages by Google will be now end-to-end encrypted according to the latest updates. This latest update to make messages in Google Messages will also be applicable to group chats.

With end-to-end encryption, all of your eligible messages including your chat attachments would be safeguarded with high security. Neither Google nor any third party will be able to access your messages.

To enable end-to-end encryption in Messages you and the person with whom you are texting will have to keep in mind the following.

First, the parties involved will have to use the Messages app with RCS chats turned on. For the unversed, RCS refers to Rich Communication Services, which is the new standard of messaging. Along with it, the parties involved will have to use data or Wi-Fi for Rich Communications Services messages.

If you get confused about whether your texts are RCS or SMS, remember that text messages are dark blue in the RCS state. In the SMS/, MMS state, text messages are light blue in color.

Google ensures automatic end-to-end encryption in eligible messages.

When end-to-end encryption is active in a message, you will see a line that will include the lock icon, followed by the words “Chatting with [contact name or phone number]. Moreover, the send arrow will have a lock icon attached to it. Lastly, the time stamps of end-to-end encrypted messages also display a lock icon.
