Facebook To Soon Launch a Smartwatch

Mark Zuckerberg’s company Facebook is currently working on building an Android-based smartwatch with features such as health & fitness and messaging.

Speaking on Facebook’s upcoming projects, Facebook is working on building its own operating system for hardware devices and future iterations of the wearable may run that software instead. The smartwatch is expected to join Facebook’s Oculus virtual reality headsets and Portal video chat devices as part of the social network’s growing hardware ecosystem.

Ray-Ban smart glasses is also something Facebook is working on and is expected to come out later this year. They have also been working on Project Aria, a separate augmented reality research initiative which is part of the company’s broader AR explorations.

According to reports, there are over 6000 employees working in the social networking company working on various augmented and virtual reality projects along with existing hardware divisions such as Portal and Oculus as well as experimental initiatives under its Facebook Reality Labs division.
