Some schools in the US shut down due to TikTok threat warns of shooting and bombing

Schools across the The United States are cautious due to a viral post on TikTok. The post warns of “shooting and bomb threats” at schools around the country on Friday (17 December). The social media threats had many teachers on edge as they circulated in the consequence of a deadly school shooting in Michigan, which has been followed by numerous imitator threats to schools elsewhere. School officials in states including Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Montana, New York and Pennsylvania said Thursday there would be an increased police assurance because of the threats. This is just something where someone posted and is encouraging violence in the schools. Very simple,” said Tom Gadowski of the Park Ridge Police Department. “I don’t want to go any further than saying that there’s an encouragement of violence.” Glenview police said they will continue to patrol all school grounds in the area. Suspicious activity should be reported to police, the department said. In Florida, the Citrus County School District released a statement on Thursday addressing the rumours and urging parents and students not to promote the social media post.

On 30 November, 15-year-old sophomore student Ethan Crumbley allegedly opened fire inside Oxford High School in Michigan, killing four students and injuring seven other people. The motive for the attack is unclear but the suspected his parents had allegedly bought him the firearm just four days earlier as an early Christmas present, according to authorities
