Government working on incentive scheme to lure Apple for starting MacBook production in India

Tech giants always look for a stable ground for manufacturing their products and that’s at least possible labor cost. But China in the past few months somehow proved that Apple can be at risk by being dependent on it for manufacturing. The Indian IT ministry established talks with Apple and achieved the success of iPhone production in India.

Now they are to lure them for MacBook and iPad manufacturing in India. It can easily be seen in government policies where it can increase the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware to nearly Rs 20,000 crore which is Rs 7,350 crore. The laptops fall under ITA-1 which allows imports at zero duty unlike the 20% import duty on smartphones.

Apple is also looking for a balance between China and India so that it doesn’t get dependent on a single country. China’s zero covid policy and Chinese citizens’ outrage for the government worked as a red flag for Apple and it slowly but surely got to know about the future consequences of it.
