Netflix Adds New “Clips” Feature for Mobile Users with Instagram Reels-Like Vertical Video Feed

Back in January this year, the streaming giant – Netflix’s co-CEO Greg Peters announced that it was working on a new mobile UI. Well, the brand has now updated its mobile UI, which Netflix claims brings streamlined navigation and a more visual experience. Along with this, a new feature called ‘Clips’ has also been added.

Netflix’s New Mobile UI and Clips Feature
Via this update, Netflix is aiming to give a better mobile experience to its users, allowing them to find something they’ll love to watch, listen to, or play in a faster, easier, and more fun way. Also as a part of improving the mobile UI, Netflix has introduced a new feature called “Clips”.
In this new feature, the video feed is designed vertically, which is similar to the reels that we watch on Instagram. Users will be able to see short clips from series, films, and specials tailored to their tastes, and if they like it, they can tap on it to see more about it.
Furthermore, this new feature can be accessed via a dedicated “Clips” tab given at the bottom of the app, next to other menus like Home, Search, and My Netflix. Users can click on the “+” symbol if they like something, and it will be added to their “My List”. Additionally, just like how we share stuff on other social media channels, Netflix is also giving a similar option here. Right from the Clips menu, users can hit the arrow button to share it with their friends or family members via other social media channels as well.

Moving on, the streaming giant further adds that in the future, it will expand Clips to include podcasts, live programming, and collections based on genres like romance or specific interests, thus giving more choice to the users.
“Mobile is an important part of how Netflix members stay connected to the entertainment they love. With our enhanced navigation and Clips, our new vertical video feed, we’re building on past learnings to deliver an experience designed for the way members want to enjoy Netflix on their phones: for the moments in between, to discover a new title, or a quick laugh. Our vision is to make our mobile experience as entertaining as what you watch, delivering increasingly personalized, immersive experiences for any mood or moment. This is just the beginning.” — Elizabeth Stone, Netflix’s Chief Product and Technology Officer
This current update is now in the rollout phase, and is being rolled out in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and South Africa starting today. Regions other than these will receive it in the coming months. Also, Netflix states that more new features are likely to come in the future for mobile users.
