Google introduces the Gemini app on Mac

Recently, Google introduced its upgraded Google app for desktop for Windows users globally. The app is currently available only in English. Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, has now announced that the Gemini app is available on Mac.

Gemini app on Mac

This is the first time that the company is bringing the Gemini app to desktop. The app is brought to macOS as a native desktop experience.

Window Sharing

You can share anything on your screen with Gemini to get help with exactly what you are looking at, including local files. If you are reviewing a complex chart, you can share your window and ask, “What are the three biggest takeaways here?” to get an instant summary.

To give Gemini context about your current work:

  • Click the Add files and tools in the Gemini app.
  • Select Share Window.
  • Choose the specific window that you want to share.

To let Gemini read full pages in the browser, go to your Mac’s system settings> Privacy and security and enable Accessibility for Gemini.

Stay in your flow

You can bring up Gemini from anywhere on your Mac with a quick shortcut (Option+ Space) to get help instantly, without ever switching tabs. Creatives can also quickly generate images with Nano Banana or videos with Veo to bring an idea to life without breaking their creative stride.

Mac users can access Gemini from any screen on their desktop to clarify a topic, recall a formula or brainstorm on the fly without opening a tab.

Availability

The native macOS Gemini app is available to all Gemini users (age 13+) on macOS versions 15 and up, globally at no cost.

To get started, you can download the app directly from gemini.google/mac. It is revealed that more features for Gemini on desktop are on their way and will be revealed in the coming months.
