Google introduces new Pronunciation Practice feature on Google Translate’s 20th anniversary

Twenty years ago, Google Translate debuted, and since then, various new features have been introduced to enhance the communication experience for users without language barriers.

Whether it’s using AI and machine learning in Translate, making your headphones your personal translator, enabling real-time conversations with Gemini models, helping people learn new languages, or downloading languages for offline use, Google Translate has it all covered for its users.

As per Google, more than 1 billion users ask Google for translation help each month. To celebrate the amazing two decades of Google Translate, the company has introduced a new Pronunciation Practice tool.

Google Translate gets a new Pronunciation Practice Tool

The Pronunciation Practice tool helps users master their delivery on the Translate app for Android.

Users were already able to tap “ask” and “understand” to provide additional context and receive alternatives, and now, they can use the new “pronunciation practice” tool, which uses AI to analyse their speech and provide instant feedback, so that they can nail the right pronunciation before starting a real-world conversation.

The feature is available in the US and India in English, Spanish, and Hindi. As shown in the above demonstration video, you will see a “Practice” option at the bottom, which includes the “Pronounce” option.

If you choose the “Pronounce” option, Translate will listen to you speak and will then analyse how you said the words to provide instant feedback. There is also a “listen” option that lets you hear how the translated text is actually pronounced.
