Expansion of Digital IDs
Building on its UIDAI partnership, Google has announced that consumers in India can now save their Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials directly in Google Wallet on their device. This new capability creates a secure, digital-first ID and makes it easier to verify identity for everyday conveniences.
The initial set of partners for this feature includes:
- PVR Inox- Quickly prove your age for movies and unlock rewards
- BharatMatrimony- Match confidently with real people using verified ‘Prime’ profiles
- Atyls- Securely auto-fill international visa applications with a single tap
- Mygate- Soon, ensure delivery and service staff entering your community are securely verified
- Snabbit- Build trust in the gig economy with seamless checks for service providers in the near future
Google is also expanding digital ID features to more countries. People in Singapore, Taiwan and Brazil are now able to create an ID pass, a secure digital ID based on their passport information, and save it in Google Wallet. This will offer a simple and private way to verify identity or age for in-person and online services that require it, like when needed to sign into your accounts.
