No Man’s Sky Releases ‘Worlds Part II’ Update Today: Adds Billions of Stars, Gas Giants, and Enhanced Graphics

Hello Games has launched a major update for No Man’s Sky called ‘Worlds Part II,’ introducing an unprecedented expansion to its universe along with significant technical improvements. This follows the successful release of Worlds Part I (5.0) last year for PlayStation platforms.

The update dramatically expands the game’s universe while preserving existing player content. “One of the biggest reasons people play No Man’s Sky is for that sense of adventure and discovery, that feeling of flying to a planet, and landing to explore, knowing no one has ever been there before,” the development team explained.

One of the most notable additions is the introduction of Gas Giants, which are approximately ten times larger than previous planets. The update also brings a completely revamped terrain system featuring massive mountains, deeper oceans, and larger caverns and canyons.

The water system has received significant enhancements, with new physical reactions including rain dimples, ship wakes, and wave generation from player and creature movement. The Nautilus submarine, fishing, and deep-sea diving mechanics have all been improved to complement these changes.

The lighting system has been entirely rebuilt, featuring enhanced shadows, sharper ambient occlusion, and improved reflections. According to the developers, much of this new technology stems from their work on their upcoming fantasy game, Light No Fire.

Beyond technical improvements, the update introduces new questlines that expand the game’s existing lore and mysteries. A new expedition serves as a guided tour of the new features, with rewards including a unique hybrid spacecraft combining living ship and jet fighter elements.
