Corning Officially Unveils Gorilla Glass 7i; Oppo Will Be The First To Launch A Smartphone With Glass 7i

Yesterday, Corning officially introduced a new addition to its portfolio of durable cover glasses- Gorilla Glass 7i. It comes as a successor of Gorilla Glass 5 and will sit between Glass 5 and Glass Victus.

Let’s get to know more about this all-new Corning Gorilla Glass 7i

This new glass technology is said to deliver improved drop protection and scratch resistance to the intermediate and value segment smartphone market. According to the company, Gorilla Glass 7i survived drops of up to one meter on surfaces replicating asphalt during the lab tests. On the other hand, a lithium aluminosilicate glass manufactured by its competitors failed when dropped from half a meter or less.

Also, Gorilla Glass 7i is up to two times more scratch-resistant than competitive lithium aluminosilicate cover glasses. According to David Velasquez, vice president and general manager, of Corning Gorilla Glass, “ Purchasing a smartphone is a significant investment and Gorilla Glass 7i allows more consumers to protect their purchase by providing advanced toughness for value and intermediate devices at an affordable price point.”

Gorilla Glass 7i not only fits the budget criteria but also fits the recent trend of putting high-quality displays on mid-range models. Corning has also officially confirmed that Oppo will be the first brand to launch a smartphone with the newly launched Gorilla Glass 7i.
