Rohit Sharma asks for a backseat from BCCI

India captain Rohit Sharma has asked for a break from international cricket from BCCI after the ongoing IPL. The Hitman had a very disappointing campaign in IPL 2022 as he only managed 268 runs at an average 0f just above 19. It was the first IPL season where MI captain didn’t even score a single half century.

“Yes, Rohit asked for a break and it’s understandable. He played all the games for Mumbai Indians and it takes a toll especially when the team doesn’t do well. We understand that. We want him fresh for the England tour,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Although, the BCCI and selectors are not concerned about his form, in IPL he managed to get some decent starts but didn’t convert them into big innings. “I don’t think its a concern. He has been playing well. A few days of rest and he should be good to go for the England tour,”.

The BCCI selection committee will meet virtually today to select the teams for the South Africa series, Ireland series and England tour.

If Rohit Sharma is rested, most likely Shikhar Dhawan or Hardik Pandya will lead the sides.
