Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo; who’s the better footballer

The game of football is admired and played worldwide, especially in the Europe. However, when it comes to G.O.A.T, inspiration or admiration, there are only two names in modern day Football; Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. More than a decade and since football has transformed with the arrival of the two, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding of who is better than the two.

Both Ronaldo and Messi have impressive stats, but a closer look at them proves Messi makes a better decisions and more importantly, brings greater value to his team. Messi is not just an incredible scorer and gifted playmaker, he also makes everyone around him a better player. He is said to be a true leader, who not only brings his team together, he makes use of his phenomenal vision to keep his teammates involved.

On the other hand, Ronaldo is also equally a skillful player and a true leader in a way but the Portuguese is more of an executor, who plays high up on the pitch and scores great goals when given the chance. Messi and Ronaldo differ mostly in their style. Ronaldo is a machine, he is an explosive player, with abnormal physical abilities and a huge amount of talent. Ronaldo is tall, skillful, fast, strong and certainly one of the greatest players. They both don’t copy each other.

But, Ronaldo’s international career puts him on a greater and higher level than Messi. In fact, Messi had never won an international trophy for many years, with regular failures in World Cups, Copa America etc. Unlike other sports, international trophies in football are the ultimate glory. With the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, if one of the two gets their hand on the prestigious trophy, it will be a cherry on top of the cake for either of the two. This will probably be both of their last World Cups.

Perhaps, comparison is not a pleasant way of looking, players like these come once in a generation and every football lover should just enjoy their respective games.

Messi – 566 career goals

Ronaldo – 614 career goals
