Khelo India University Games back after Covid scare

The event which was supposed to be held in 2021 got postponed due to the sudden rise in Covid – 19 will now happen in 2022. The competition was inaugurated in Bengaluru on April 24, 2022.

Khelo India University Games is a national – level multi – sport competition for athletes from universities across the country. It is the largest university level sports competition in India.

The event is held by the Sports Authority of India and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports along with Association of Indian Universities, Indian Olympic Association and National Sports Federation.

JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) is leading the chart with 20 gold, followed by Lovely Professional Universities with 17 golds and lastly Panjab University with 15 golds.

According to media reports, over 5,000 athletes from over 170 institutes across the country participated in the ten day event from April 24 and May 3, 2022 hosted by the Jain University of Bengaluru.

Siva Sridhar claimed seven gold and two silver medals as Jain University continued to rule the medals table with 24 medals, 16 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals in the Khelo India University Games 2021. The focus was mainly on the athletics portion in comparison to boxing and swimming.
