Allyson Felix finishes the world championships with the 19th medal altogether

Allyson Felix, a star athlete, ended her impressive career on Friday in Eugene by helping the US team win bronze in the 4x400m mixed relay with her 19th world medal.

In 3min 9.82 seconds, the Dominican Republic won gold, and the Femke Bol-led Dutch quartet secured silver.

The 36-year-old Felix, who took the baton from Elija Godwin on the second leg at Hayward Field but allowed the lead to slip, did not quite have his ideal farewell.

Kennedy Simon, Felix’s teammate, went out too quickly and suffered the price when she flagged down the stretch, but Vernon Norwood made up the gap thanks to Dominican anchor Fiordaliza Cofil.

Regardless, the bronze marked the end of a successful career that saw Felix make her world championship debut at the age of 17 in Paris in 2003.

Her total medal count for the world now stands at 19 (four individual golds, 13 gold, three silver, and three bronze).
