Google Doodle commemorates Colombia Independence Day

July 20, is the Independence Day of Colombia. On this day, in the year 1810, Colombia gained independence from Spanish colonization. Today’s Google Doodle commemorates the same, the Colombia Independence Day. Colombia signed the Act of Revolution and became a sovereign state on this day in 1810. 

Today’s Google Doodle pictures an Andean bears amidst mountains. These Andean bears resides in the Paramous Mountains of Colombia and can overlook the Independence Day celebrations. Andean bears are said to be the country’s guardian. This breed of bear, for the Colombians is a sacred addition to their land. It is included in their oral traditions of legends, myths and songs. 

Colombians around cities in the world come together to celebrate their culture and history by observing military parades and historic reenactments. It is a tradition of the Colombians to show pride in their homeland by painting their faces yellow, blue and red. Additionally they also wear their national football team’s jersey. 

Colombian Independence Day wouldn’t be complete without the existence of the delicious dish, bandeja paisa. This savory dish is the national dish of the nation and consists of grilled beefsteak, steamed white rice, red beans, fried eggs, sweet pantains, fried pork and avocado slices. 

Google with their Doodle for the day wishes Colombia a Happy Independence Day.
