Society of the Snow, the 2023 survival thriller film directed by J. A. Bayona will be available for streaming on Netflix from today, Thursday, 4 January 2024. The film was earlier released on 9 September 2023 in Venice, 13 December 2023 in Uruguay, and 15 December 2023 in Spain. The film is an adaptation of Pablo Vierci’s book of the same name. The film’s plot is based on the Uruguayan 1972 Andes flight disaster.

The film was selected as the Spanish entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards. It was one of the 15 finalist films in the December shortlist.

The screenplay of the film is written by J. A. Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques, and Nicolás Casariego.

Premise: The film revolves around a plane crash in the remote heart of the Andes. After the crash survivors join forces and try to help each other as they navigate their way back home. Their only hope is to help each other out.
