Tencent Games said to be excluded from the Huawei App Store on Sales Controversy

Tencent’s online gaming services have been excluded from Huawei’s app store after the two parties struggled to find an understanding of revenue sharing, Tencent and the source said on Friday.

In a statement, Tencent said that due to Huawei’s inability to renew its contract with their Mobile Game Promotion Project Agreement as planned, the related products of Tencent Games were abruptly pulled from the shelves early this morning.

“At present, active communication is being made to try to resume as soon as possible,” it said.

Tencent offers some of the world’s biggest video gamers, while Huawei has 41.4 percent of China’s mobile phone industry and 14.9 percent of the global market, according to market intelligence company IDC and Canalys.

The source said that the games had been deleted because the parties did not settle to an agreement on revenue share with app store purchases. Huawei focuses on a 50% reduction, the source added.

Huawei did not respond immediately to a request for comments. Tencent did not respond immediately to a request for feedback about why the companies were not in agreement on revenue sharing.

There was also some opposition from game makers to Huawei’s sales demands. This included Shanghai-based developer Mihoyo, who last year decided not to put his hit game “Genshin Impact” on Huawei’s app store because he did not agree with the sales commission arrangement.
