TRAI Approves the CNAP Portal, Which Will Provide Caller Details Directly Via the KYC Database: PAN India Roll-Out Expected by March 2026

DoT’s CNAP portal has now received the approval from TRAI and its roll-out across India is being expected to take place by the first quarter of next year. Unlike Truecaller, CNAP is revealed to pick up caller details directly via the KYC database.

Here’s more about it.

CNAP – Gets Approved by TRAI and Now Undergoing Testing

Calling Name Presentation or CNAP from India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has now received the approval of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). As per what has been revealed, this new system or framework is much similar to Truecaller, but considered to be much more effective, and it will be displaying the caller ID (even if it is not saved on the user contacts).

As of now, mobile phones rely on the Calling Line Identification (CLI) to display phone numbers, however no other further details are being provided to users. What CNAP does is that, it will directly fetch the caller information from the KYC database, and provide users with the caller’s verified name as per the telecom records. Notably, an active internet connection is not needed for its functioning, making it much more useful and reliable. Once rolled-out, this feature is said to be made live by default for all users.

In terms of its roll-out time frame, it is expected to have its pan India roll-out by the month of March 2026. As pointed out above, CNAP is currently undergoing testing in the state of Haryana (in India) by both Jio and Vodafone Idea.

Stay tuned for more such updates.
