ASUS Entering the DRAM Business in 2026?
The memory shortage is in fact a big crisis now in the tech world and it has already affected PC, smartphone, and other consumer electronics makers on a large scale. Brands have started increasing the price of their products, and this shortage scenario is expected to cause delays in the coming years as well. Last month itself, we came across updates concerning smartphone brands’ decision to pause memory chip procurement due to higher cost of purchase, while Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series pricing are reported to be higher than before.
While the current scenario continues without any change, ASUS is rumored to enter the DRAM business to tackle the crisis on its own. As per what has been shared, by the end of Q2 2026, the Taiwanese tech brand is expected to set up its DRAM production line if the prices and supply of memory does not go back as it was earlier. However, setting up such a production line for manufacturing DRAM will be a huge task for the brand, even if it has the resources to fund it.
Speaking more, if these rumors turn out to be true, ASUS could be initially focusing on streamlining the supply of its own laptop and desktop devices (ASUS, ROG, and TUF lines). Also, if the brand is able to produce additional memory units after meeting its demands, other PC makers are believed to benefit from the brand as well.
