Robots to Surpass Human Surgeons in the Next Few Years, Shares Elon Musk on X

Just like all the AI innovations that we came across over the recent past few months, the tech world has already seen a great leap in robots and their development too. Notably, many new humanoid robots were introduced by different companies and a few of the recent ones include the 1X Neo Gamma, Vanar Generation 1 (prototype), and Boston Dynamics – Atlas. These listed robots as mentioned are humanoid robots and they are made intended for commercial use in the near future.

Another area where robots have been introduced to and where significant developments have taken place is in the field of medical surgery. Elon Musk – a prominent figure in both the technology and business spheres and a name associated with companies like Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, X, and Neuralink has shared that in the next few years, we will be able to see robots taking over and surpassing surgeons in medical surgeries.

Will Robots Surpass Surgeons in a Few Years?

Re-sharing an X post from Mario Nawfal (Influencer and Host of X’s largest show) about robots helping in surgery and being good at it, Musk has shared that in the next few years, surgical robots could be actually replacing human surgeons. He says that ‘robots will surpass good human surgeons within a few years, and the best human surgeons within ~5 years’.

Speaking more, Mario Nawfal on his X post notes on how Medtronic’s Hugo robot was used in 137 real surgeries to fix issues related to the prostrate gland, bladder, and kidneys, and the robot performed better than what doctors anticipated it to do. Also, the complication rates were low for the mentioned surgeries – 3.7% for prostrate surgeries, 17.9% for bladder surgeries, and 1.9% for kidney surgeries. The robot also set a new success rate as well of 98.5% from the 85% goal that was set, and on top of this, 135 of the 137 surgeries were completely done by the robot itself, while two were shifted as regular surgeries – due to a robot glitch and a tricky patient case.

Adding to this, Musk also shared that Neuralink had used a robot to insert the brain-computer electrode as it was not possible for humans to have the needed precision and the required speed to do the process.

We are yet to see even more innovations in this field and as mentioned above, a few years from now, we may undergo surgeries done by robots, and could also be treated and diagnosed by robots themselves in hospitals and clinics. Let’s wait and see what awaits us.
