Google Reportedly Working on its Own DeX-Like Desktop Mode for Android Devices

It has now been reported that similar to Samsung’s DeX mode, Google is also currently working on its very own desktop mode for Android devices. The first look of this new feature has also been revealed online.
Here’s more about it.
Google’s Desktop Mode for Android Devices
Previously with Android 14 QPR3, the California-based tech maker had brought out the DisplayPort mirroring functionality to Pixel 8 and later smartphone models. Following this, with Android 15 QPR1, the brand also unveiled the desktop windowing capability for Pixel Tablet as well (in developer preview). The experience offered by both these are now available together with the ‘desktop windowing on secondary displays’ option on the latest Android 16 beta version.
In the first look images shared online, we are able to find a Pixel device (Pixel 8 Pro) connected onto a laptop, and the laptop displaying the desktop experience. The Android Taskbar can be spotted with pinned and recent apps, launcher access, along with the three-button navigation at the right. At the top of the window, the time and status bar icons can also be seen. On dragging down, the two-column Quick Settings and Navigation menus can be found too. Moreover, the apps are resizable, can be moved around, and also be placed side by side.
The details concerning the official launch and availability of this feature are still unknown, while the tech world is also confused on how Google plans to integrate it to its broader desktop computing approach. While Google’s ChromeOS is being made to have more Android features within it, the new Android desktop mode could be intended to gain access onto proper laptops or PC devices.
