Safety tools for WhatsApp group (Android)

When added in a group

In case you are added to a group by someone not saved in your contacts, you will see the information about the group so you can decide if you want to exit or stay. Tap Stay to stay in the group, or Exit group to leave. After tapping Exit group, you can also tap Report to WhatsApp if you would like to report the group.

Group privacy settings

By default, your group privacy settings are set to Everyone. You can change this setting by going to WhatsApp settings and selecting from Everyone, My contacts or My contacts except to control who can add you to a group.

Report a message

You can report a message in a group and block the sender. When you select Block contact, you will no longer receive messages or calls from them, though you will still be able to see their messages in the group. When you report a message, WhatsApp receives the reported user ID, information on when the message was sent, and the type of message sent.

How to report a message?

  • Tap and hold the message
  • Tap the three dots> Tap Report (member name or number)
  • You can choose to select Block contact
  • Tap Report

The message will be sent to WhatsApp, and the sender won’t be notified.

Block a group

You can block and report group admins and members if you think they’re sending problematic content or spam.

  • Tap the Group name> Report group
  • You can choose to select Exit group and delete chat
  • Tap Report

When you report a group, WhatsApp receives up to 5 of the last messages sent to you by a reported group. No one in the group will be notified while WhatsApp receives the reported group ID, information on when the message was sent, and the type of message sent, as well as how the first contact was initiated between you and the reported group.

Block a group admin or member

You can stop receiving messages from group admins or members by blocking them. If the admin or member is from your contact list, then you can block the contact, and if they are not added to your contact list, you can just tap on their number in the group, a blank chat with that person will open, and from there, you can block them.
