Who is General Alexander Dvornikov Russia’s New Military Commander?

Russia has named General Alexander Dvornikov as the new head of military operations in Ukraine, despite the continued horrific conflict.

According to the BBC, Russia has named General Alexander Dvornikov as the new head of military operations in Ukraine, despite the ongoing horrific war between Russia and Ukraine.

Western diplomat confirmed the new commander’s name, saying Dvornikov had extensive experience in Russian operations in Syria, according to the report.

This significant shift came amid claims that Moscow expected “announceable triumph” in eastern Ukraine by May 9, the anniversary of Russia’s victory in the Great Patriotic War.

General Alexander Dvornikov’s biography

The Russian President’s Office believed that under his guidance, overall command and control against Ukraine would increase due to the General’s experience. During his time in the army, General Dvornikov has served in a variety of roles. He was posted as a battalion commander to the Western Group of Forces’ 6th Guards Motor Rifle Brigade. In the late 1990s, he also commanded units in the 10th Guards Tank Division and the 2nd Guards Motor Rifle Division.

Dvornikov ascended through the ranks of the North Caucasus Military District, finally becoming chief of staff and commander of a mobile rifle division. After graduation from the Military Academy of the General Staff, he became the 36th Army’s deputy commander and chief of staff. In 2008, the renowned military officer took leadership of the 5th Red Banner Army.

The war between Russia and Ukraine

It’s worth noting that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is still escalating, having entered its 45th day on Saturday. Since the beginning of the fighting on February 24, 16 children have died and 306 others have been injured, according to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Iryna Venediktova.
