You can now catch up with previous chat history on joining a new group with the new Group Message History feature on WhatsApp

Faced a situation where you have just joined a group on WhatsApp and find it hard to catch up with the conversation going on in the group? If yes, then WhatsApp has heard you. The company is rolling out a new Group Message History feature that makes group chats even more welcoming without interruption.

Group Message History feature introduced on WhatsApp

This feature allows group admins and members to choose to send recent messages to new members, so they can catch up easily. When you add someone new to a group chat, you will see an option to send recent messages to them (from 25 to 100 maximum). This ensures that new members read the most relevant and recent context.

Group Message History remains end-to-end encrypted like all other personal messages. It keeps conversations flowing, with no more screenshots and no more unnecessary message forwarding.

Do note that admins have the option to disable the setting for their groups, and they will always be able to share message history. For transparency, when a message history is sent, everyone in the group is notified with clear timestamps and sender information, and the message history is visually distinct from regular messages.

This all-new Group Message History feature is rolling out gradually to all users. Stay tuned with us for all the latest updates.
