WhatsApp is reportedly testing a noise cancellation feature for voice and video calls

Just a few days back, WhatsApp released Android 2.26.14.1 beta update, and it was discovered that with this update, the company has rolled out a feature that integrates built-in noise cancellation into voice and video calls (via @WABetaInfo).

It is revealed that some beta testers can access a new option to enable noise reduction for calls. This feature detects and filters out ambient noise to preserve the speaker’s voice, which makes conversations clearer and easier to understand, even in noisy environments.

For better results, it’s recommended that both participants enable noise cancellation, though it is not necessary that if the feature is available for one participant, it is available for the other. The audio call clarity for a call participant depends on whether they have the feature enabled.

To access this feature, users in the testing phase can check whether the noise suppression is available by opening the Calling menu. As seen in the above image, there is an option that lets users manage this feature. This feature is enabled by default and can be turned off at any time.

Availability

This feature is available to some beta users who install the latest WhatsApp beta Android update from the Google Play Store. The noise cancellation feature is gradually introducing this option, so access might be limited at first. Meanwhile, over the next few weeks, more users should be able to enable this feature during calls.
