Xiaomi 17 Series Officially Confirmed to Launch on September 25 in China During Lei Jun’s Annual Speech

While everyone expected Xiaomi to launch the Xiaomi 16 series, the company skipped a number and recently confirmed that the successor to the Xiaomi 15 series will be the Xiaomi 17 series, for which pre-orders have already begun in the Chinese market. This move is because Xiaomi wants to compete with its rival Apple, which recently launched the iPhone 17 series.

Earlier, Xiaomi had confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 series would launch in September, though the exact date was not revealed. However, in a teaser released today, the launch date has now been confirmed, and the event will take place during Lei Jun’s Annual Speech, called Transform, on September 25th at 7 PM China time. The lineup will include the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Alongside the Xiaomi 17 series, the Xiaomi Pad 8 series is also expected to launch, although today’s announcement made no mention of it.

Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 series will be the first to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC (scheduled to launch at the Snapdragon Summit from September 23rd to 25th) with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. The Xiaomi 17 Pro models will also debut a secondary rear display, which Xiaomi calls the “Magic Screen.” This display can show app information, clock faces, a selfie viewfinder, incoming calls, and music playback controls.

In the teaser released today, the Xiaomi 17 is shown with a rectangular camera module with curved edges, positioned in the top-left corner, and displayed in a sky-blue colour. The Xiaomi 17 Pro is shown in purple, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is presented in green.

Alleged 3C listings for both the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Pro have revealed support for 100W fast wired charging. Furthermore, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has already stated that the Xiaomi 17 will be the most powerful standard flagship. He also confirmed that there will be no price increase for the Xiaomi 17, at least in China, meaning pricing is expected to be similar to that of the Xiaomi 15.

With the launch date just three days away, more official details are likely to be revealed soon.
