Xiaomi 17 Series Launch to Take Place in September 2025, Confirms Lu Weibing: Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max Coming as World’s First Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Flagships
Xiaomi’s President and Partner – Lu Weibing has now officially confirmed the brand’s Xiaomi 17 series launch in the Chinese market and it will be taking place this month as revealed earlier. Three new smartphone models will be debuted under the series, and these will be hitting the market as the world’s first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-powered flagships.

Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max – Launching in September 2025 Featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Chip
After announcing the pre-order for its next flagship series earlier this month, Xiaomi has now officially confirmed its launch time frame. The update which comes directly from Lu Weibing – the President and Partner of Xiaomi, notes that it will not be the Xiaomi 16 series, but the Xiaomi 17 series that will be launching, and the launch will take place this month itself in September 2025. Just recently, Apple had unveiled its latest iPhone 17 series consisting of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max models (the iPhone Air was also introduced on the same day), and Xiaomi is skipping its 16 series and launching the 17 series to directly compete with this rival of the brand. Also, similar to Apple, Xiaomi has also confirmed that it will be bringing out the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max flagship models.
In related news, Qualcomm has already announced its Snapdragon Summit for this month (23rd to 25th September 2025), and this event was said to mark the debut of its next flagship chip. While earlier updates had suggested that it will be the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 that will be coming, as it will be the brand’s 5th generation flagship chip (following the previous Snapdragon 8 Elite, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1), it is now confirmed to be called as the ‘Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’.
Coming back to the Xiaomi 17 series, the upcoming Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max smartphones will be the very first to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip out of the box, and notably this will make the Xiaomi 17 the most powerful standard flagship of the market at the time of its launch. Also, while the Xiaomi 17 smartphone will be offering a comprehensive upgrade over its predecessor, the brand has also added that it will be offered at the same pricing as well (without any increase). Regarding the pro models, the Xiaomi 17 Pro will be the brand’s ‘most sophisticated compact imaging flagship’, whereas the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will be Xiaomi’s ‘most powerful flagship in terms of pinnacle imaging technology’.
Speaking of other previous updates, the first look images of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max model was shared online last week, and it was revealed to feature a design similar to Apple’s iPhone 17 series (pro models), in addition to a possible secondary display at the rear. Furthermore, three Xiaomi smartphone devices (likely from the Xiaomi 17 series) have received the 3C certification too, and two of them were pointed out to support a 100W wired fast charging feature.
