Russia Ukraine Crisis : Videos of Ukrainian Soldiers Kicking Indian, African Students at the Border

A video that has gone viral and been reposted by several verified Twitter accounts shows Romanian and Polish forces kicking and beating stranded Indian students, both girls and boys.

A student-shot video purports to show Indians sitting on a road near the Ukraine-Poland border. Border guards can be seen kicking and assaulting Indian students in the footage. Some articles further claim that African students were beaten and kicked at national borders by security authorities.

Many students near the Ukraine-Poland border have posted films stating that Ukrainian troops and police are driving them back into Ukraine by firing in the air and attempting to force their cars into crowds. Other recordings show armed men abusing Indian students at country borders; however, it is unclear whose country they belong to.

In a video, Angel, a Malayali student, claims that she and her classmate were shoved and beaten. Angel went on to say that the Ukrainian military did not care if students died when the police tried to crash their vehicles into the throng of protesters. “It’s a pity; this is not how the Ukrainian government or military should treat foreigners.”

Other photographs and videos showed a sea of students awaiting entry into Poland at the Ukraine-Poland border.

Many students have sought refuge in bunkers, while thousands more are attempting to travel into neighboring countries on foot after receiving assurances of assistance.

Shana Shaji, a 21-year-old Kerala resident, told PTI on Saturday, February 26, that they were only given food for one day and were sheltering in a metro bunker.

People have taken refuge in metro stations to escape the intense military battle, which has turned them into bunkers.

Following the closure of Ukraine’s airspace as a result of Russia’s military intervention, the Indian government dispatched teams to Hungary, Poland, the Slovak Republic, and Romania’s land borders with Ukraine to aid with the evacuation of Indian nationals.
