Tesla unveils Model Y L 6-seater EV in China; Arrives with feature upgrades over the standard Model Y

Tesla’s Model Y 5-seater EV was claimed as the bestselling model in the Chinese market, but the EV was facing competition from newer models introduced by domestic carmakers. Well, to enhance the experience, Tesla has now unveiled a 6-seater, long wheelbase variant of Model Y- Model Y L.

Tesla unveils Model Y L in China

When compared to the standard Model Y, this latest EV arrives with a 150mm longer wheelbase (2890mm) and 179mm more length (4797mm). The exterior side of Model Y L resembles that of the standard model, but it features redesigned 19-inch alloy wheels, a longer roofline, bigger quarter glass, and a blacked-out spoiler. There is also a new, straight gold color option.

It comes with a 2+2+2 seating configuration. The second-row captain chairs are heated, ventilated, and come with power-folding armrests, while the last row seats are heated only. It includes a 16-inch touchscreen and 18 speakers, while pillar-mounted air vents for both the third and second rows have also been added.

Coming to performance, Model Y L is only offered in long range. It is fitted with 193 hp front and 269 hp rear electric motors. It is backed by an 82kWh battery pack, and 0-100kph takes 4.5 seconds. Model Y LWBs 751km range on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle is 1km more than the standard variant. It weighs 2,088kg, which is 96kg heavier than the standard model.

Model Y L is priced at 339,000 Yuan in the Chinese market. The details regarding the availability of this model in other regions are not yet known.

Just recently, Tesla made its debut in the Indian market and launched its Model Y in the country. Two variants have been made available via its official website for Indian customers: Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. The Rear-Wheel Drive variant offers 500km range, 201km/h top speed, and 5.9s 0-100km/h acceleration, whereas the top-end Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant promises 622km range, 201km/h top speed, and 5.6s 0-100km/h acceleration.

The two are priced respectively at INR 59,89,000 and INR 67,89,000 (excluding the 5-year estimated fuel savings of INR 3,43,500). Also, the on-road price for these will be INR 61,07,190 and INR 69,15,190 (in Mumbai, Maharashtra). 6 different body colors are available for the Tesla Model Y EV in India, and customers can get it in Stealth Grey, Pearl White Multi-Coat, Diamond Black, Glacier Blue, Quicksilver, and Ultra Red.

The bookings for Model Y have already started in India, and residents from  Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurgaon will be given priority in delivery initially.

Let’s see if in the future Tesla plans to introduce Model Y L in India as well, or the EV remains restricted to a few selected markets. For now, the model is available in China only.
