BSNL Launches eSIM Service Powered by Tata Communications Platform
Tata Communications has deployed its digital infrastructure to support BSNL’s newly launched eSIM services for mobile subscribers across the country.
The service runs on Tata Communications MOVE™, a GSMA-accredited eSIM platform operated by Tata Communications Collaboration Services Private Ltd., a subsidiary of Tata Communications. The platform allows BSNL to offer eSIM provisioning to its customers nationwide.
With BSNL’s eSIM service, customers can activate 2G/3G/4G connectivity by scanning a QR code, removing the need for a physical SIM card. Those with dual-SIM capable phones can use an eSIM along with a regular SIM, which makes it simpler to switch to local networks when traveling internationally.
A.S. Lakshminarayanan, MD and CEO, Tata Communications, said: “We are honoured to partner with BSNL to bring secure, scalable, and future-ready eSIM services to millions of citizens and enabling India’s shift towards next-generation connectivity. This collaboration reflects Tata Communications’ commitment to driving digital innovation and supporting sovereign infrastructure. Together, we are laying the foundation for a more connected and resilient India.”
A Robert Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL, said: “The launch of Pan-India eSIM service represents a strategic advancement in our national telecom capabilities. With Tata Communications’ strong connectivity experience and forward-looking innovation, we are enhancing the flexibility, security, and efficiency of mobile services for citizens across India. It aligns with our commitment to fostering digital independence and ensuring robust infrastructure for the future.”
The partnership aligns with the government’s Digital India vision. While the rollout currently targets individual consumers, the platform can be expanded to support enterprise IoT applications in the future.
