Airtel silently discontinues its Rs 189 voice-only recharge plan

Bharti Airtel’s Rs 189 voice-only prepaid plan was quite famous among users who needed only voice services and did not use mobile data, such as senior citizens or rural customers. But now the telecom company has silently discontinued this voice-only recharge plan.

Bharti Airtel’s website now shows the Rs 199 plan as the minimum recharge option, instead of the previous Rs 189 voice-only plan. The Rs 189 plan offered unlimited calls across all networks, while the  Rs 199 plan includes voice, data, and other added benefits.

The Rs 199 base plan offers prepaid users unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS per day, and 2GB of data for 28 days. Once the users consume the 2GB data, they will be charged 50 paisa per MB for internet usage. Extra benefits include free Hello Tunes and a 12-month subscription to the Perplexity Pro AI tool with the plan.

This strategy will impact budget-conscious users who were not in need of data and other benefits and only relied on the plan for unlimited calling. It appears that Airtel is now focusing on data-driven plans just like the other telecom companies present in the country.
