Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra – Revealed to Feature M14 and COE Display Technologies
While the previously-revealed Galaxy S26 Ultra camera specs had disappointed Samsung fans, the display specs of this upcoming flagship device won’t likely do the same. This is because, Samsung is now revealed to be planning on employing its Galaxy S26 Ultra’s OLED display screen with the new M14 and COE display technologies, thereby making it brighter and thinner than before.
The new material set ‘M14’ is considered to be the most advanced OLED material set, and it is said to be used first time by Samsung via its Galaxy S26 Ultra flagship, while the Galaxy S26 Pro and the Galaxy S26 Edge would continue using the same M13 material set. With the M14 set, the luminous efficiency of the Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone will be improved, as well as its lifespan. The same source also notes that the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Galaxy S26 Pro, and the Galaxy S26 Edge that are coming out early next year (probably in February 2026) would respectively feature display screen sizes of 6.89″, 6.27″, and 6.66″.
Regarding the COE technology, it was earlier used on foldable smartphones (from the 2021-released Galaxy Z Fold 3) and with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, it will also be brought to a candy bar form factor smartphone device for the first time. With the COE technology, the panel thickness can be reduced as it replaces the need for a polarizer and directly integrates the anti-reflective functionality onto the OLED display’s encapsulation layer (by embedding color filters). The reduced thickness also helps in delivering a brighter display too.
To note, there are reports which suggest that Apple also plans to use the COE technology on its upcoming iPhone models that are coming in 2027 as part of the 20th iPhone anniversary, but if Samsung employs it on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the crown for the first brand to employ the COE technology on a candy bar smartphone will remain with Samsung itself.
