Meta Wrist Band Receives the FCC Certification, Revealing a Few of its Key Specs and Suggesting its Nearing Launch

Previous reports have already revealed that Meta researchers are working on a ‘Wrist Band’ that can be used with gesture controls, and which will notably serve as a simpler alternative to Elon Musk’s brain implant chip – Neuralink. This upcoming device has now received the US-based FCC certification, suggesting that the product could be ready for market launch.

Meta Wrist Band – FCC Certification

The upcoming Meta-branded ‘Wirst Band’ is revealed to carry the model number of ‘WQ8’, and it has been certified by the FCC authority with the FCC ID of ‘2AGOZ-WQ8’. A few of its key details pointed out via the certification listing are the Bluetooth LE connectivity support (with LDS loop antenna, 2400MHz ~ 2483.5MHz operating frequency, -2.2dBi peak gain, GFSK modulation), charging dock (with model number of ‘VIE101’), and 18W charging adapter (with model number – ‘MA0122’, revealed to be Quest 3 USB-C charger).

Speaking more, Meta’s ‘Wrist Band’ as per what has been reported is being made to enable people with motor disabilities to control computers using hand gestures. Actions like cursor moving, app opening, and messaging can all be done with the help of this Meta device. Surface Electromyography or sEMG is the technology that has been adopted on the Meta ‘Wrist Band’ and it is capable of interpreting user movements by detecting electrical signals generated by muscles – meaning it will detect the intention of users before they actually do it. Previously, reports also mentioned that the brand is planning to test it with people suffering from spinal cord injuries and who have restricted hand and arm movements.

Apart from being a simpler alternative to Neuralink, it is also a better alternative to headsets utilizing electroencephalogram or EEG signals which possess limitations as a result of weak signals. In comparison with the two, the Meta device is more reliable as it can be used immediately without the need of any surgeries and has higher frequency thanks to the sEMG technology.
