Foldable iPhone Reported to Feature a Side Button Touch ID, Not the Rumored Under-Display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner

It has already been a while since reports concerning Apple’s plan to introduce a foldable smartphone device arrived and recently in the tech industry, it was rumored that the brand’s foldable could be equipped with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. However, the side-button Touch ID itself is being expected as per what has been newly reported.
Here’s more about the update.
Foldable iPhone Could be Featuring a Side Button Touch ID Itself?
This new update comes from the Apple Analyst – Ming Chi Kuo and as per his X post, while rumors now claim that an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner may be offered in the upcoming foldable iPhone, he states that it is unlikely. As revealed earlier by Ming Chi Kuo, a side-button Touch ID is to be expected on this device, and he further adds that Luxshare ICT is believed to supply the side-button Touch ID module.

Speaking more, the upcoming foldable iPhone is said to hit the market as a true AI-driven phone and it will be positioned as a top-tier iPhone. This device will be a horizontally-folding or book-like foldable, probably featuring a 7.8″ crease-less inner display and a 5.5″ cover display. At the rear, a dual camera system can be expected on the device, along with a front-facing camera on the cover and inner displays. In terms of its thickness, when folded, it is suggested to be 9 mm ~ 9.5 mm and when unfolded, it is likely to be 4.5 mm ~ 4.8 mm.
About the build, the hinge is expected to be made out of titanium alloy and stainless steel, and the casing will only be using the titanium alloy as per what has been reported. The same high-density battery cells as in the soon-to-be-launched iPhone 17 Air is also likely going to be equipped within the foldable as well. The mass production of the Apple foldable iPhone is reported to begin in Q4 2026. Also to note, the same report also talks about its second generation model too, which is said to begin mass production in H2 2027.
