How to Fix the “Corporate Mobile Device” Sign-In Error in Google Workspace

Security is definitely important nowadays, especially when cybercriminals are constantly trying to get their hands on your personal information. While security measures are essential, they can sometimes become a nuisance.

For instance, if you’re using a paid Gmail Workspace account and a user is unable to sign in, receiving a message that says, “Go back & use your corporate mobile device,” it’s likely because Google has identified a specific device as the primary one associated with that account. As a result, any sign-in attempts from other devices may be flagged as unusual.

The full error message reads:

“We detected an unusual sign-in attempt. To make sure that someone else isn’t trying to access your account, your organization needs you to sign in using your corporate mobile device (the phone or tablet you normally use to access your corporate account).
If you don’t have your corporate mobile device with you right now, try again later when you have your corporate mobile device with you.
If you continue to have problems signing in, contact your administrator. Learn more
Go back & use your corporate mobile device.”

Here’s a simple fix:

Sign in to the Admin Console using your main or super admin account (the one used to create the Google Workspace account).

In the left-hand menu, click on Directory, then select Users.

From the list of users, click on the account that’s experiencing the issue.

Navigate to the Security section and click on Login Challenge.

You’ll see an option that says “Turn off for 10 minutes.” Click on it.

Now, try signing in to the user account again—it should work without the error.
