Trilophosuchus rackhami is a crocodile that weighs up to 2 kilogrammes and measures somewhere between 70 and 90 centimetres. Scientists call it the “most adorable reptile” that roamed in north-west Queensland about 13.5 million years ago, scientists say. A PhD student recently conducted research on this “cute” creature. For surprise, he has uncovered some astonishing facts along with its relationships with other species. This miniature crocodile is, basically, land-based reptile that lives in the forest

Jorgo Ristevski, a PhD candidate, performed the research, where he used the reptile’s skull for the examination process. During the same, Ristevski commented,”By micro-CT scanning the beautifully preserved skull, we were able to digitally separate each bone.” He even claimed that the reptile would have been the most adorable-looking animal and that he thinks that the world is missing out because of its extinction.

Based on his study of the 2 kg creature, Ristevski said that he digitally reconstructed the reptile Trilophosuchus’ brain cavity and realised that it belongs to some distantly related extinct terrestrial crocodile family of Africa and South America. “We were quite surprised to find this because, evolutionarily speaking, Trilophosuchus rackhami is more closely related to today’s crocs,” Jorgo said. The name Trilophosuchus translates to ‘three-crested’, while rackhami represents Mr. Rackham’s last name.
