Bhanuka Rajapaksa smashes an unbeaten 45 ball 71 to take Sri Lanka at 170/6 in their 20 overs. The Lankan Lions were almost on the verge of a fallout as they were 58/5 at a stage. However, apart from Rajapaksa, Dhanajaya de Silva (28) and Wanindu Hasaranga (36) also made contributions with the bat which helped the five-time Asian champs to a respectable total.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets to his name, while Naseem Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan scalped one wicket each.

Pakistan had won the toss and elected to bowl. For Pakistan, Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah have been named back in the Playing 11. Whereas Sri Lanka went with the same squad. In the group stage of the tournament, both the teams lost one game out of three and in the Super 4 stage, they made their way into the finals after defeating India and Afghanistan respectively.

Moreover, Sri Lanka had thrashed Pakistan by five wickets in the last Super 4 match. It will be interesting to see that which side will crunch over the other to claim the ultimate title.

Hence, an interesting start for Pakistan as they claimed 9 runs without any legal ball bowled, No Ball, Wide Ball, Wide Ball, 5 Wide Ball, Wide Ball as Dilshan Madhushanka started off the second innings as a nightmare for the Sri Lankans.

Its Pakistan vs Sri Lanka at the DP Asia Cup 2022 final in Dubai, a great contest for all the fans. Shaheen pacer Shahnawaz Dahani proved to be a great sport of the team, the bowler gifted his jersey to a Sri Lankan fan just before the start of the final at the Dubai International Stadium.

Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bowl first and put the Lankan Lions up for some batting.

Moreover, Sri Lanka have not lost a match in the tournament and also, they will be defending a target after winning four consecutive games while chasing targets, which also includes the victory in the game against Pakistan of the Super 4 clash.

However, skipper Dasun Shanaka said he would’ve bowled first had he won his fifth toss in a row but was also happy to bat first in the final. Sri Lanka have been crowned the Asian champions five times, whereas Pakistan won it twice.

Here are the Playing 11 of both sides in the final:

Pakistan: Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam (captain), Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Asif Ali, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah.

India managed to put up a total of 173/8 in the Super Four fixture of the Asia Cup against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium. Rohit Sharma played a captain’s knock after the top and middle order failed to deliver.

He scored a 41 ball 72 after KL Rahul and Virat Kohli departed for low figures. Unlike in the previous game against Pakistan, Team India made a slow and inferior start the innings this time.

After two quick wickets, SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) and Rohit stabled India’s car after the batting collapse. The duo took India past 100, sharing a 97-run partnership. However, both Rohit (110/3) and SKY (119/4) departed in quick succession.

With this, Rohit now has the joint-most 50+ scores in the format with Virat Kohli (32).

During the innings, Rohit became the first Indian to complete 1,000 runs in the Asia Cup (ODI and T20Is). He also reached the 3,600-run mark in T20I cricket. He now is the leading run-scorer in the format.

Moreover, Kohli failed to open his account against Sri Lanka for the first time in T20I cricket. He departed for 0 after facing four deliveries.

At the current moment, Sri Lanka are 120/4 in 15 overs

The Asia Cup has kicked off in the UAE and with the first game itself, Afghanistan have blowed away Sri Lanka and announced their arrival in the tournament. The Afghans had the match in their hands right through the game and played with sheer dominance.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 105 runs, Afghanistan chased the target comfortably in 10.1 overs, though the Sri Lankan fans had some respite with the 44 run partnership between Danushka Gunathilaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

Afghanistan won by eight wickets, and also, the Afghan openers Rahamanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai gave them a great head start as they scored 83 runs in the first six overs.

Sri Lanka bowlers, especially spinners Hasaranga and Theekshana could not manage to keep the score below the required run rate and were getting smashed all around the ground. Hasaranga gave the team a breakthrough, but it was too late.

Fazalhaq Farooqi was the Player of the Match for his figures3/11 in his 3.4 overs.

The next fixture in the tournament is between arch rivals India and Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium and the heat has built up at both sides.

Chinese spy ship Yuan Wang-5 has been given permission by Sri Lanka to dock at the Hambantota Port, according to Sri Lankan news sources.

The Sri Lankan government authorised the Yuan Wang-5 ship to dock at the Hambantota Port on Friday, according to a report by TimesOnline LK.

On August 16, the ship will arrive at the Hambantota Port. Previously, it was supposed to arrive in the Hambantota Port on August 11.

The Sri Lankan government expressed serious concerns to India, who then asked the Chinese government to postpone the event till further notice.

The approval was earlier granted by the Sri Lankan Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Defense Ministry, and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), and the ship is currently sailing for Hambantota Port.

The surveillance ship’s docking will cause embarrassment for the Sri Lankan administration, which despite the economic crisis is still receiving money from India, ignored India’s concerns.

In a meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe earlier this week, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung expressed concerns about the spy ship. According to Sri Lankan media reports, Wickremesinghe asked Chung to explain her concerns and opposition.

According to the Pentagon, the Strategic Support Force of the People’s Liberation Army controls the Yuan Wang-5 spy ships (PLA). These ships have the best electrical and antenna technology available, which enables them to launch and track missiles and rockets.

India has repeatedly stated that the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) is a historic sphere of influence and that it will not allow any challenges to its sovereignty or its legitimate strategic interests.

It should be highlighted that the dysfunctional Sri Lankan government has little influence on how the Hambantota Port is run.

Because it was unable to pay its debt, the country leased the port to China for 99 years. As a result, it has caused geopolitical problems for its neighbours in the area because the PLA may use the port to spy on India by taking advantage of Sri Lanka’s unrest at home.

After Colombo requested a deferment of the scheduled docking of a high-tech Chinese research vessel at the major Hambantota port over which India raised reservations, sources claimed that China’s embassy here has requested an immediate meeting with senior Sri Lankan authorities.

The Chinese space and satellite monitoring research vessel “Yuan Wang 5” was due to dock at the Hambantota Port from August 11 to August 17, weeks after Sri Lanka experienced significant political unrest as a result of widespread mass protests over the nation’s worst economic crisis in decades.

The Chinese embassy in Colombo received the following “third-person” note from the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry on August 5: “The ministry wishes to request that the arrival of the vessel Yuan Wang 5 in Hambantota be deferred until further consultations are made on the matter.”

According to various media reports, India had protested to Sri Lanka because it was concerned the ship might be used to spy on its operations.

According to local reports, after receiving the note from the foreign ministry asking for a postponement of the visit, the Chinese embassy in Colombo requested an urgent meeting with the higher Sri Lankan authorities to resolve the matter.

Some Sri Lankan news outlets also said that when Colombo requested a postponement of the scheduled docking, President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka met privately with China’s Ambassador Qi Zhenhong.

The President’s Office, however, refuted the meeting report in the media.

The Chinese ship’s docking at the Hambantota port was authorized by the then-government on July 12 despite the political unrest in Sri Lanka.

The Chinese ship was scheduled to dock at the port in Sri Lanka for “refueling and “replenishment,” and it will operate satellite control and research tracking in the northwest Indian Ocean region throughout August and September.

Due to its position, the southern deep-sea port of Hambantota is regarded as strategically significant. The port, which is situated near the Rajapaksa family’s hometown, was substantially expanded with Chinese funding.

Indian authorities reportedly warned Sri Lanka that the landing of the advanced Chinese research vessel might endanger that country’s security, according to local media sources.

India sent Sri Lanka strong protest letters after learning that the ship was able to track satellites and intercontinental ballistic missiles, according to the report.

According to India, it carefully monitors every development that could have an impact on its economic and security interests.

“We are aware of reports of a proposed visit by this vessel to Hambantota in August,” External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in New Delhi when asked about the reports of a proposed visit by a Chinese vessel.

“The government carefully monitors any development having a bearing on India’s security and economic interests and takes all necessary measures to safeguard them,” he said last month.

The likelihood that the ship’s tracking equipment could try to snoop on Indian installations while it is traveling to the port in Sri Lanka worries New Delhi.

India has historically viewed Chinese military warships in the Indian Ocean with skepticism and has previously objected to such engagements with Sri Lanka.

India and Sri Lanka’s relationship deteriorated when Colombo allowed a Chinese nuclear-powered submarine to anchor in one of its ports in 2014.

China has made the most infrastructure investments of any creditor to Sri Lanka. The success of the island in the ongoing bailout negotiations with the International Monetary Fund would depend on the debt restructuring of Chinese loans.

In contrast, India has provided Sri Lanka with a lifeline during its recent economic crisis.

As the island nation struggles with the biggest economic crisis since gaining independence in 1948, India has been at the forefront of providing Sri Lanka with approximately USD 4 billion in economic support.

India has pledged to continue helping the island nation and its people in their efforts to achieve stability and prosperity as the new president of Sri Lanka works to end the nation’s economic crisis.

Last week, Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena stated that his country was eager to resolve the ship’s visit issue by a “approach of friendship.”

India is particularly worried about the port of Hambantota. After Sri Lanka failed to meet its debt repayment obligations in 2017, Colombo leased the southern port to China Merchant Port Holdings for 99 years, raising concerns about the port’s potential use for military purposes.

Sri Lanka is facing shortage of foreign exchange and consequently has decided to restrict fuel imports. This restriction is meant for 12 months. The energy minister of the nation informed about this on Monday. The new government of the Island nation is trying to find its way out of a collapsing economic crisis.

The nation is facing lack of essentials that includes fuel and medicines for months. This happened after its foreign exchange reserves dried because of mismanagement of economy and the impact of Covid-19 pandemic.

Kanchana Wijesekera, minister of Power and Energy of the nation, stated in a tweet that due to forex issues, fuel imports has to be restricted for the next 12 months. A fuel rationing system will be implemented this week.

The rationing system is one of the first step that the newly formed Preseident, Ranil Wickremesinghe is trying to execute. This will be an effort to ease the impact of the crisis after taking office last week by the president.

Schools in Sri Lanka were reopened on Monday. Fuel shortage and political unrest kept the educational institutions closed for quite a long duration.

However, public sector employees have been advised to continue working from home for another month. The government mentioned this in a circular issued on Sunday.

Manoj Gupta, the managing director of the Lanka IOC mentioned that it will import two fuel shipments of around 30,000 tonnes each in August. Lanka IOC is the country’s second largest fuel retailer.

According to the sources, it claims that as the Indian Ocean island battles its worst economic crisis in decades, Chinese President Xi Jinping reportedly pledged his support to Sri Lanka’s new president on Friday. Amid ferocious public resistance, Ranil Wickremesinghe, a lawyer who held the position of the prime minister of Sri Lanka a record six times, was sworn in on Thursday.

The problem in Sri Lanka led to months of widespread protests and ultimately caused the country’s former president, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, to leave. According to CCTV, Xi stated in his message that he is “ready to provide support and help to President Wickremesinghe and the people of Sri Lanka in their efforts” and that he hopes Sri Lanka will be able to progress toward economic and social recovery.

We also came to know that although other estimates put Sri Lanka’s debt to China at almost double that amount, it is at least $5 billion. According to the International Monetary Fund, India has also loaned it $3.8 billion, Japan is owing at least $3.5 billion, and other wealthy nations owe it another $1 billion. A state of emergency has been declared by Wickremesinghe.

Fears that Wickremesinghe had started a crackdown a day after taking office were increased when security personnel attacked and largely evicted a protest camp that had taken up residence on government property in Colombo on Friday.

The citizens of Sri Lanka protested on the streets when the reports of the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa leaving Sri Lanka surfaced. Moreover, even a police officer stops his duty and joins protesters in Maharagama.

Thousands of protesters were seen protesting on Sri Lanka’s streets. Also, the protestors broke all the barriers imposed by the police officer’s and broke into the President’s official residence on Saturday 9th July.

There are various videos surfacing on the internet where the protesters are trying to get inside the official president residence. The protesters were shouting out the slogans against Rajapaksa outside his official house.

However, currently, the island is facing a big financial mismanagement because of inflation. And day by day, the island’s financial condition is worsening.

All the prices including fuel, taxes, food, gas cylinder, along with medicine has been touching skies. However, the citizens are already trified on the financial condition of Sri Lanka.

But the reports of the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa leaving for his house triggered the people even more. Additionally, even the police officer stopped doing his duty and joined the protesters’ massive group on the streets.
