India competed in their 18th edition of the Commonwealth Games 2022, a total of 210 participants took part; 106 men and 104 women. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won the first gold medal for the country at the games.

Team India stood at 4th position only behind Australia, England and Canada. A total of 61 medals for the Indian contingent.

A magical day for India, raining medals for the Asian nation, three boxers – Nikhat Zareen, Amit Panghal and Nitu Ganghas each won the gold for India. Two medals were also in the bag in men’s triple jump, Eldhose Paul and Abdulla Aboobacker Narangolintevid were the shoe stealers.

Also, Badminton players Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu have also entered the final of men’s and women’s singles. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost the silver opportunity, the duo will try their hands at scalping bronze.

Achanta Sharath Kamal has entered the final of men’s singles. India also earned a bronze by beating New Zealand in penalty shootout. Moreover, the Indian women’s cricket team is also on the runs chase to score 162 to bring in another gold to the country’s name.

Meanwhile, Annu Rani and Sandeep Kumar also won a bronze in the women’s and men’s javelin 10km race walk.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 are underway in the United Kingdom, in the city of Birmingham, a city which is very close to the Indians. The tournament will be held from 28 July to 8 August 2022. It is India’s 18th appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

106 men and 104 women were announced which would take part in 16 sports, the list came out in July 2022. Hockey player Manpreet Singh and badminton player P.V. Sindhu were selected as the flagbearers in the competition.

The first glory came when Sanket Sargar won a silver medal in weightlifting, which opened India’s medal tally.

Although, 3*3 basketball, beach volleyball, netball and rugby sevens are some of the sports in which India are not competing. Indian para athletes are competing in athletics, para powerlifting, swimming and table tennis.

Moreover, by holding discussions with the IOA and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, the federation determined that India would, subject to qualification, participate in the Commonwealth hockey tournaments.

By far, the team has put up a great show and sheer consistency, hardwork and execution has been seen in the past few days. This is also India’s best performance in any Commonwealth Games edition.

India’s pride and boy Neeraj Chopra has won another accolade under his name, the Haryana boy has earned India’s only second medal at the World Athletics Championships, finishing with a historic silver in the men’s javelin final. With Neeraj’s throw of 88.13 m in his fourth attempt secured him of not only a podium finish but also ended India’s 29 long years wait for a medal at the World’s after Anju Bobby George’s bronze medal finish in the women’s long jump way back in 2003.

Grenada’s Anderson Peters took away the gold with a gigantic throw of 90.54 m. Moreover, all his attempts cleared the 90 m mark.

The fourth attempt of Neeraj’s was the game changer, the throw surpassed Vadlejch’s best by just that much. However, the fifth and sixth attempt went for fouls.

Vadlejch’s best of 88.03 secured him a bronze medal finish, followed by Weber at fourth position respectively.

Neeraj’s global performance continue to rise after securing a gold at the Olympics for India. Also, Neeraj Chopra with a throw of 89.30m at the Paavo Nurmi games set a national record and followed it with an effort of 86.69m at the Kourtane Games.
