The Artemis 1 will take off later in the month of August 2022. Ever since the last Apollo mission in 1972, this will be the first time that a capsule capable of carrying humans will be sent to the moon. 

Rick LaBrode is the lead director for the Artemis 1. He has worked at NASA for 37 years and states that by far the American quest to return to the Moon is the crowning moment of his career. 

Labrode asserted to reporters that this quest is more exciting than anything else that he has ever been involved. He also asserted that the eve of the launch would likely be a long night of anticipation and little rest. 

The Artemis 1 will be an uncrewed test flight. It will feature the first blastoff of the massive Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. Authorities states that it will be the most powerful in the world when it goes into operation. 

The Artemis 1 will propel the Orion crew capsule into orbit around the Moon. Before returning to Earth, the spacecraft will remain in space for a period of 42 days. 

2024 is the year meant for Astronauts to travel aboard Orion for the same trip. On the following year Americans will once again step foot on the Moon.
