Oppo has to get the compensation done within 4 weeks.

The 23% figure was decided by the High Court Bench because Oppo’s sales in India account for around 23% of its global sales.

In 2018, Oppo secured a license from Nokia for using their technology over a 3-year agreement. Oppo also made advance payments for using this technology.

The agreement did not cover the use of patents relating to 5G standards. 5G devices account for 52% of Oppo’s sales in India. Considering this, Oppo would have had to pay a substantially higher amount to Nokia.

Nokia alleged that after the 2018 agreement expired, Oppo had an unprecedented increase in the sale of its devices and around 77 million of their devices had been sold in India without paying a single rupee as royalty.

Nokia’s case is that they offered to discuss the renewal of the agreement but, Oppo refused to negotiate. Nokia then filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court for infringement of its patent for 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G devices in India.

Nokia sought a temporary deposit from Oppo of an amount based on the latest counteroffer made by Oppo for a global license during the negotiations or an amount equivalent to the royalty paid under the 2018 agreement.

A single judge of the High Court dismissed the application seeking interim deposit, stating that the court did not have the power to do so without going into the merits of the case. Nokia then appealed against the order before a 2 judge bench.

In this case, Oppo’s argument is that a patent holder cannot seek an interim or even a permanent injunction as a matter of right and Nokia was seeking interim security in the initial stages of the case, without substantiating any of its claims.

The court set aside the single judge’s order and directed Oppo to deposit 23% of the proceeds of their India sales.

They were removed in accordance with the open-source strategy to hasten the development of technology for electric cars. Tesla Motors was established to speed the development of environmentally friendly transportation. If they pave the road for the creation of appealing electric vehicles but then lay intellectual property landmines in our wake to obstruct others, they are acting against that goal. No legal action will be taken against anyone who legitimately wishes to use Tesla’s innovations.

It was tesla employees’ fear that the big automakers would steal their ideas and use their unmatched manufacturing, marketing, and sales power to destroy the company that compelled them to file patent applications. Tesla was right though. The major automakers have very few programs for automatic cars which account for less than 1% of their overall sales. The major automakers are, at best, working on a select few electric vehicles with short ranges.
Patents don’t determine technology leadership since history has repeatedly shown that they provide little protection against a determined rival. Instead, it depends on how well a company can recruit and keep the top engineers in the world. According to Tesla, implementing the open source philosophy into our patents would strengthen rather than erode Tesla’s position.

Tesla created automotive history by becoming the first company to make all of its patents freely used by anyone. Elon’s personal insolvency was nearly caused by the technology he and his team toiled so arduously to create. This means that Tesla has opened their patents for every manufacturer.

Honda is all set to introduce a radar-based technology for its Honda Goldwing cruiser, leaked patent images reveal. Features such as an autonomous braking and radar-assisted cruise control system would add a layer of security to the bike. The leaked images only indicate a forward placement of the radar hardware. This technology may also be used on other touring-focussed models such as the Africa Twin CRF1100L, by the company.

Radar-based safety features aren’t that common in case of motorcycles, though they can now be found in many cars. However, some brands, have been trying endlessly to bring the radar technology to motorbikes. The brand-new Ducati Multistrada V4 is the first motorcycle in the world to feature the revolutionary front and rear radar systems. The new Active Cruise Control (ACC) safety and convenience feature will also be added to the future BMW Motorrad bikes, as announced by the company. Now Honda has taken the initiative to use these technologies in its bikes.

The leaked images reveal that the radar sensor would be located in the middle of the Honda Goldwing’s massive headlamps. Apparently, the plan is to hide it in plain sight thus enabling it to function without any interruption and without spoiling the motorcycle’s looks. So we can assume that there’s sufficient space in the area between the headlamps to fit the radar sensor. The images also suggest that Honda will use a sponge-type material to fill the gap between the radar sensor and bodywork, thus preventing vibrations from the fairing to transmit to the radar sensor.

There are not many details revealed as to when the technology will be used in production materials, but considering rival brands like Ducati and KTM have announced the updates, it shouldn’t be too far into the future. Honda may also source its radar tech from Bosch.

The new Ducati Multistrada V4 also brings the safety net of Blind Spot Detection to the motorcycle with its introduction of a rear radar system. The leaked patent images of the Honda Goldwing, however, do not hint at a rear radar system. We would hear more details as the company gets closer to installing the tech to production models.
