Pfizer Inc will make all distinct medicines available at low prices in the countries, which have low-income revenue.

Pfizer Inc is an American multinational biotechnology and pharmaceutical company, located in Manhattan, New York.

The pharmacy has made its name by giving out treatments for various diseases worldwide. 

During COVID, Pfizer successfully produced medicine and vaccines for distribution to the public.

New Announcement:

On Wednesday, the drugmaker announced that it will provide COVID treatment ‘Paxlovid’ and ‘Ibrance’ breast cancer treatment to the world’s 45 poor countries worldwide.

If the income of any country is less, it faces many difficulties in different aspects of life. 

It consumes four to seven years longer for new treatments to become available in low-income countries, says Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Pfizer includes 23 medicines and vaccines for treating various diseases.

Vaccines for COVID and breast cancer are available along with *pneumonia vaccine, *rheumatoid arthritis drug and various other cancer treatments.

The COVID vaccine which is developed by Comirnaty along with BioNTech SE is also included in the list.

Besides, Chief Executive Albert Bourla said, the antiviral (Paxlovid) is going to be a very big deal for them.

If they need it they can get it immediately.

When Pfizer will launch other medicines and vaccines, they will also be included in the drug portfolio at a non-profit price, he added.

An Accord for saving lives:

The poor countries are mostly in Africa and Southeast Asia.

Pfizer called it ‘An accord for a healthier world’ for which five countries – Rwanda, Ghana, Malawi, Senegal and Uganda – have already committed to joining the accord,

announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Although, Pfizer has been condemned for how it brought out COVID vaccines to poor countries after the earliest doses arrived in wealthier countries.

However, Pfizer came in front to give various vaccines and treatments to poor countries.

Whereas, Bourla replies by saying that, ‘the new accord has been informed by the difficulties of that rollout, particularly the lack of health infrastructure in some countries that made distributing the vaccine difficult’.

‘Instead of washing our hands and saying, ‘I gave you the product, do whatever you want with them,’ we’re saying, We’ll give you the products, we will sit with you to see how we can help organise a system that can utilise them, added Bourla.
