It has been 8 years since the Nintendo Switch was launched. Nintendo is now aiming to attract customers during holiday season hype with two new Mario Kart 8 Switch Bundles. The two bundles as announced by Nintendo are a $349.99 Nintendo Switch – OLED Model: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle and the other is a $299.99 Nintendo Switch: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle. Both models include a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online individual membership.

The $349.99 OLED Model: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle comes with the Nintendo Switch -OLED Model system, and further features Joy-Con controllers, a download code for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game, and a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online individual membership.

The $299.99 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle on the other hand features the Nintendo Switch system with Neon Red and Neon Blue Joy-Con controllers. It also includes a download code for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game ($59.99) and a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online individual membership, available at $19.99.

According to Nintendo, you can avail a combined saving of up to $79.98 on both the bundles. This will be available online in the My Nintendo store and in selected retail stores by October. However, the supplies may be limited and will be available until they last.

Parallelly Nintendo is also gearing up for the highly anticipated ‘Switch 2’. While the ‘Switch’ is nearing its expiry, many ‘Switch-exclusive games are still due out. This includes the likes of Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which is scheduled to release on September 26, 2024; the Super Mario Party Jamboree, which is scheduled to launch on October 17, 2024; Mario & Luigi: Brothership, which is scheduled to launch on November 7, 2024, and Donkey Kong County Return HD, which will be available for Switch on January 16, 2025.

Nintendo has announced the removal of X integration from the Switch on June 10, 2024. This will make features for posting screenshots and videos to X from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu unavailable to the gamers. This harsh step by the company is said to be motivated by the rise in charges charged by the X for the business use of API. The blog post by Nintendo says that posting screenshots, and videos to Facebook will continue to be available as it does not charge for using its API.

As of June 10, 2024, it will no longer be possible to post screenshots and videos to X (formerly Twitter) from the Nintendo Switch's Album, or send friend requests to social media users via the Friend Suggestions feature.

This step did not go unnoticed by the X and it shared a post saying that the gaming community is one of the largest and most vibrant communities on the platform. It further wrote ” As part of Nintendo’s planned discontinuation of sharing content to X from the Nintendo Switch, from June 11th, users will need to download Switch gameplay media directly to their smartphones and share it natively on our platform. Our partnership with Nintendo remains strong, and we are working together to ensure a smooth transition for all users. We will continue collaborating with partners to bring new and exciting experiences to our global gaming community”. Nintendo is not the first to take this step as Microsoft also disabled Xbox integration in May 2023 and Sony removed the X integration from PlayStation in November of last year.

Nintendo Switch continues to be one of the favorite hybrid consoles even after nine years of its launch. It has broken all the sales records because up until now 140 million units have been sold. The company is reported to be working on its successor which has a load of huge expectations from gamers in this competitive market. Furukawa also mentioned the event that they would host in June. The event would only focus on the Nintendo games but not on the Switch 2. The reports particularly say that the much-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 can make its debut between July 2024 and March 2025. This announcement has come following the company’s quarterly earning report that says that the company’s hardware sales have declined 12.6% year over year which can’t be a shocking thing for almost a decade-old flagship console. Its exclusive titles like “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdom” have helped a lot of consoles to maintain their likeness among gamers. It will be interesting to see, how the company manages to meet gamers’ expectations with the Nintendo Switch 2.

Recent reports have asserted that Nintendo plans on introducing Switch’s successor hardware by 2024 second half. The company wants to ensure stock availability on the first day of the launch.

In this regard, rumors are of the view that the concerned authorities have already sent development keys to third-party studios.

According to reports the upcoming next-gen consoles would be capable of functioning in portable mode just like Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo might also switch to an LCD screen instead of the much popular OLED. This would cut down the costs of the consoles. The catch is to invest more in storage as higher fidelity games require immense storage capacity.

The present Nintendo Switch provides only 32 GB of Internal Storage. But, most of the popular PlayStation and Xbox games amount to up to 100 GB.

The new-gen Nintendo consoles would also feature cartridge slots, which will let ‘physical games’ function. Moreover, it is supposed to be a hybrid console.

Nintendo’s market rates are expected to fall this year. The hardware domain is where Nintendo would tend to suffer losses this year. Thus, to battle these possibilities, Nintendo plans on introducing new hardware, the next-gen console.

History points out that Nintendo mostly launches hardware mid-cycle, deviating from what PlayStation or Xbox does.

Nintendo authorities are also concerned that they might not be able to convince their family-oriented fans, who like to stick to old hardware.

Inflation saw the price to hike in many Nintendo products recently. However, Nintendo’s Switch console  won’t be added to this list. They asserted in reports that they had no plans to increase the trade prices of its hardware. 

This information comes in after a weeklong of Surprise price increase on Sony’s PlayStation 5 console in many regions. The regions listed according to reports are available in UK, Europe, Japan, China, Australia, Mexico and Canada. 

There has been more steep rises in the prices of products. Previously this week, the market aso saw the increase of Meta’s Quest 2 VR headset by $100.  

However, this impact fuelled by inflation on tech products  is harder to spot compared to more widespread price hikes at the store. This comes in a situation when many companies are hiking up the price for new and existing products. Irrespective of the products being sold or not, it has also come to the notice that the possibility of impact by a new crew is unknown. However, one thing is clear that it does not include Nintendo Switch. 

Mr Furukawa, company president asserted in reports that the organization will determine their upcoming pricing strategies through careful and continuous deliberations. Additionally he added that retailers always determine the final price to products.
