Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the 36th National Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Technically, the National Games have started from September 20, but officially they started on September 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The opening ceremony was also attended by big sports personalities of India. Anju Bobby George, Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu and Gagan Narang also graced the ceremony with their presence.

Moreover, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu also attended the event. However, all these players are not participating in the National Games, but by attending the opening ceremony, these players explained the importance of this competition, and this will certainly boost the importance of sports in the country.

The players also took a shot at the shooting range of the Gujarat National Games before attending the opening ceremony of the National Games.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared open the 36th National Games here on Thursday. Indian sportspersons might not have performed well in the past due to nepotism and corruption but his government cleaned up the system, the Prime Minister said on the day.

While addressing the ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad here, PM Modi praised Indian athletes for winning medals in various international events such as the Olympics which were held recently.

“The country’s sportsmen were capable in the past too. This movement of winning medals could have started earlier too. But, instead of professionalism, there was nepotism and corruption in sports. We have cleaned up the system and pumped in new confidence among the youth,” the Prime Minister said in his address to the sea of people.

“Your victory in sports will pave the way for the country’s success in other fields. The soft power of sports will significantly improve our country’s image in the world,” PM Modi to the sportspersons.

A few days back, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had issued a warning sign to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), in context to resolve all issues of the Sports in the country and around its hierarchy, whereas a clear suspension was on the way.

Earlier on, FIFA, the governing body of Football in the world had put up a ban on the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in view of interference of third-party involvement. The ban was however, lifted after some days and FIFA had ordered AIFF to go ahead as plan and schedule of all the events and tournaments.

Now, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of India, Anurag Thakur has come up with an eye-catching statement, in which he has said that the federation needs to come forward.

“It’s the federation that needs to deliver” said the former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The statement by Thakur should be stressed upon as the central government cannot go through each and every detail and cons happening in the procedures and execution of plans.

The key responsibility is of the Sports Federation, and they should ensure that each player and athlete in the country is equipped with the latest methods and services in their respective games.

September 20 has been marked as the deadline set by the Sports Ministry for the submission of online applications for National Sports Awards 2022. The website, https://www.yas.nic.in, has been receiving notifications for the same.

Indian Olympic Association/Sports Authority of India/recognized National Sports Federations/Sports Promotion Boards/ State and UT Governments were intimated accordingly, the Sports Ministry said in a statement.

“The application of the eligible sportspersons for the award must be submitted at the Portal dbtyas-sports.gov.in by 11.59 pm on 20th September, 2022. Applications received after the last date will not be considered,” the Ministry said in its notification.

Moreover, the applications are only being accepted through online mode only and that too through a dedicated portal.

Sports Awards are given every year, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award and Dhyan Chand Award are some of the major awards, too name a few.

However, the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar is given to the corporate entities and individuals, who have contributed in the area of sports promotion and development and the Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Trophy is given to a university for overall top performance in the inter-university tournaments.
