Oppo has to get the compensation done within 4 weeks.

The 23% figure was decided by the High Court Bench because Oppo’s sales in India account for around 23% of its global sales.

In 2018, Oppo secured a license from Nokia for using their technology over a 3-year agreement. Oppo also made advance payments for using this technology.

The agreement did not cover the use of patents relating to 5G standards. 5G devices account for 52% of Oppo’s sales in India. Considering this, Oppo would have had to pay a substantially higher amount to Nokia.

Nokia alleged that after the 2018 agreement expired, Oppo had an unprecedented increase in the sale of its devices and around 77 million of their devices had been sold in India without paying a single rupee as royalty.

Nokia’s case is that they offered to discuss the renewal of the agreement but, Oppo refused to negotiate. Nokia then filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court for infringement of its patent for 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G devices in India.

Nokia sought a temporary deposit from Oppo of an amount based on the latest counteroffer made by Oppo for a global license during the negotiations or an amount equivalent to the royalty paid under the 2018 agreement.

A single judge of the High Court dismissed the application seeking interim deposit, stating that the court did not have the power to do so without going into the merits of the case. Nokia then appealed against the order before a 2 judge bench.

In this case, Oppo’s argument is that a patent holder cannot seek an interim or even a permanent injunction as a matter of right and Nokia was seeking interim security in the initial stages of the case, without substantiating any of its claims.

The court set aside the single judge’s order and directed Oppo to deposit 23% of the proceeds of their India sales.

On Friday, it stated that users globally had been disrupted, but it did not support a report that indicated as a result, data on 5.4 million people were made available for purchase online.

The theft is especially troubling because many Twitter users, particularly human rights activists, hide their names in their profiles out of security reasons and/or fear of retaliation from authoritarian authorities. Jeff Kosseff, a data security specialist at the US Naval Academy, tweeted: “This is incredibly bad for anyone who uses anonymous Twitter accounts.”

The bug, according to the company, allowed anyone to determine whether a particular phone number or email address was linked to an active Twitter account during the login process, revealing account owners. No credentials were made public, according to Twitter, and it was not immediately clear how many people might have been affected.

We can confirm that there was a worldwide impact, In an email, a representative of Twitter wrote. “We are unable to determine the exact number of affected accounts or the location of the account holders.”

Twitter addressed the problem in a blog post on Friday in response to a report published last month by the digital privacy advocacy group Restore Privacy that detailed how data allegedly obtained from the vulnerability was being sold on a well-known hacking market for USD 30,000.

A security researcher who discovered the flaw in January also contacted Twitter and allegedly received a $5,000 payment. According to Twitter, the bug, which had been introduced in a June 2021 software update, was swiftly fixed.

As reported in the media, Twitter claimed to have learned about the data sale on the hacker forum and to have “verified that a bad actor had exploited the problem before it was rectified. All account owners whose accounts it can verify were impacted, it claimed, would be immediately notified. The company stated, “We are posting this information because we are unable to confirm every account that was potentially compromised, and we are especially cautious of users using pseudonymous accounts who may be targeted by state or other actors.”

It suggested users not include their email or phone number in their Twitter profile if they wished to keep their identities a secret. The disclosure of the breach coincides with Twitter’s lawsuit against Tesla CEO Elon Musk for attempting to retract his earlier $44 billion deal to buy the San Francisco-based business.

The tweet by Elon Musk which read as Tesla + Twitter -> Twizzler has brought many questions to the follower’s minds. Is Elon Musk planning a merger again or is he indicating something in a rather sarcastic way?

Despite not being available to the general public at the time of writing, reports indicated that a court order might soon make a redacted version of the case document available.
The source claims that Elon Musk filed the lawsuit soon after Delaware Court of Chancery Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick ordered a five-day trial to begin on October 17 to determine if he could pull out of the $44 billion deal. The court has scheduled a five-day trial for this case.
This decision does not, in McCormick’s words, “resolve any specific discovery disputes, including the appropriateness of any requests for requests for very large data sets.”

To settle his attempt to renege on a $44 billion acquisition agreement for the social media network, Elon Musk wanted a five-day trial beginning on October 17 rather than October 10 as Twitter Inc. had requested on Tuesday. The breadth of discovery and who would have access to internal documents and other evidence, however, did not appear to be areas of agreement between the two parties.
In April, Musk agreed to buy Twitter and take it private with an offer of $54.20 per share and a promise to make content policing easier and remove phony accounts. Musk broke the agreement on July 9.

If either side was to fault for the agreement falling through, Musk and Twitter had agreed to divide a $1 billion breakup fee.

According to the reports, the said organization collected data from both the medical portals beyond its login walls where sensitive information regarding the patients is usually kept for the hospital to use. The lawsuit stated that neither the hospitals nor Meta took the consent of the patients before transferring details. They realized their data has been transferred from the hospital to Facebook when Facebook started showing specific advertisements similar to the medical condition they have.

According to the data-driven investigation agency the Markup, Meta Pixel is used by more than 80,000 popular websites and several anti-abortion clinics and other healthcare providers. It is believed to have established tracking codes in 33 websites of the top 100 hospitals in the US. Interestingly the tracking codes can access data from even password-protected client information sections on the portals. The Meta Pixel is a piece of code that can be injected into any website to collect data regarding visitors’ profiles for targeted advertisements.

According to the collective that filed the lawsuit, they received targeted advertisements specifically detailing their medical conditions over Facebook and emails. They claim to feel violated by those ads as they never agreed to deliver sensitive information regarding them. However, Meta detailed that they have rights over its data privacy policy stating that its partners can collect data lawfully regarding patient information and transfer it over to the company.

The complaint reads, “Healthcare Defendants do not have the legal right to use or share Plaintiffs’ and Class members data, as this information is protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996’s (“HIPAA”) Privacy Rule, which protects all electronically protected health information a covered entity like Healthcare Defendants “create[], receive[], maintain[], or transmit[]” in electronic form.”

The collective accused both Meta and the hospitals of sharing and transferring sensitive information without the knowledge of the patients.
